Sundanese karinding goes to Seville

I'll be giving a presentation at the International Society for Metal Music studies conference titled "Metal Aesthetics and Folk Traditions in Contemporary Sundanese Karinding Music". It's based on the chapter I'm currently writing for my Jew's Harps & Metal book with Owen Coggins. It owes a huge debt of gratitude to the work of Kimung, one of the veterans of the Sundanese metal scene and now a driving force behind the karinding's resurgence in metal and other contemporary genres. It's always exciting to witness a jaw harp revival happening in real time, and truly inspiring to delve into the layers of meaning the instrument has in Sundanese culture. Let me know if you'd like to see the slides -- I’ll post them on Harp Nerds if there’s interest!
